PAC | PASADENA AREA CONSORTIUM         

 

Background

The California Legislature has committed funds to Assembly Bill 104 consortia of K-12 and community college districts to collaborate regionally to develop plans for expanding and enhancing adult education instructional and student support services by creating linkages between the two educational systems. Regional collaboration provides capacity for K -12 and community college adult education programs to work together to provide seamless transitions for students into postsecondary education or the workforce.

Program Areas

The Adult Education Block Grant (AEBG) implementation funds to regional consortia to improve the delivery of adult education and address existing gaps in programs and services in seven program areas:

  1. Elementary and secondary basic skills including classes required for a high school diploma or high school equivalency certificate
  2. Classes and courses for immigrants eligible for educational services in citizenship, ESL, and workforce preparation classes in basic skills
  3. Education programs for adults with disabilities
  4. Programs for adults, including, but not limited to, older adults, that are primarily related to entry or reentry into the workforce
  5. Programs for adults, including but not limited to, older adults, that are primarily designed to develop knowledge and skills to assist elementary and secondary school children to succeed academically in school.
  6. Short-term career technical education programs with high employment potential
  7. Programs for apprentices

Consortium Objectives

Grant funds will allow PAC to accomplish the following objectives for each of the seven program areas:

  1. Evaluation of current levels and types of adult education programs
  2. Evaluation of current needs for adult education programs
  3. Plans to integrate existing programs and create seamless transitions into postsecondary education or the workforce
  4. Plans to address the gaps
  5. Plans to employ approaches proven to accelerate student progress
  6. Plans to collaborate in professional development
  7. Plans to leverage existing regional structures

The Pasadena Area Consortium will provide academic and workforce skills training and teaching excellence for adult learners in a supportive community that promotes higher educational pathways or workforce preparation goals through noncredit or credit academic and Career Technical Education (CTE) programs.
